With elements arranged in a gridded block, the system expresses its modularity with singular force. By comparison, the SK 4's organic forms and natural materials of just two years earlier seem positively romantic. Rams' shift towards a more technical aesthetic was influenced, in part, by HfG student Herbert Lindinger's thesis, a study on a modular audio system, submitted to the Braun Company through Hans Gugelot's development group in '58. Lindinger's study and Rams' studio 2 together established the formal principle of Braun audio's heroic '60s phase.
