The Eames Storage Unit (ESU) represents another example of Charles and Ray’s dedication to designing and producing economical household furniture using industrial production techniques.
They constructed this system of lightweight, modular storage cabinets out of plastic-coated plywood, lacquered Masonite, and chrome-plated steel framing. The design duo believed in “the honest use of materials,” so rather than disguise the off-the-shelf look of the ESU’s components, they embraced its industrial roots.
